A simple story
In fact, ‘Margherita’ – daisy – is shortened to ‘ghitin’ in Occitan, the name we have chosen for our homes because it says more about us than we could ever put into words.
Hello, we’re Francesca, Fabrizio and Margherita and, as we like to say, ours is a simple story that began with her – our daughter.
Because Ghitin is something small but precious. Something spontaneous, authentic, something that belongs to this place. Just like us. Just like Baita Ghitin.
The idea is as simple as you can imagine: to offer you a cosy place where you can spend a simple weekend or a longer stay in contact with nature and exploring our valleys.

The revival of tradition
The two detached houses we have lovingly restored retain the typical features of traditional architecture.
The houses have retained their original dimensions: homes in Ostana used to be small so they could be heated more easily in winter. The external walls are the original ones, whilst still meeting high standards of thermal insulation. We have also sought to make the most of the timber by restoring it or giving it a new lease of life.
Below you can see our before-and-after… impressive, isn’t it?
Today, the two houses at Baita Ghitin have all the comforts of modern homes and are carbon neutral, as they are equipped with a state-of-the-art photovoltaic system with associated storage for powering and heating the properties. Thermal insulation performance is maximised to ensure the lowest possible environmental impact and respect for the mountain ecosystem.
Above all, Baita Ghitin is now a cosy nest for a couple, and a welcoming home for a couple with one or two children.
Our petals,
our values
Nature
Every choice here follows the rules of nature. It may sometimes be inconvenient, but more often than not it will be a gift to be able to return to the simplicity of mountain life.
Care
It is the little things that define who we are. We are flowers standing before a stone giant, and yet ‘it is said that even a king once bowed before a flower’. Have you ever heard this little truth?
Time
Not everything needs to be filled. Take time for yourself, to sleep, to listen to the sound of the stream, to admire the stars (the sky above Ostana is certified as one of the best in Italy), to chat with the locals. Time simply to be.
Roots
We belong first to the place and then to ourselves, just as the ghitin belongs to the meadow. Explore the hamlets of Ostana, sample the local, zero-mile produce, take part in the village festivals, listen to the Occitan dialect, visit the eco-museums… only then can you say you have truly experienced Ostana, whether for a weekend or for longer.
