Your “baita” in Ostana
Ostana is a work of poetry. A dozen or so scattered hamlets that seem to have been dotted here and there along the sunniest side of the Po Valley.
Small stone houses, hidden alleyways winding their way between an ancient wash house and the start of one of the many mountain trails. One of Italy’s Most Beautiful Villages.
But Ostana is also a shining example of Alpine regeneration, where architecture blends seamlessly with the landscape and people have learnt to use creativity to assert their cultural identity.

It’s located in La Villa, and will tell you all about traditional crafts, farming methods of yesteryear and Occitan culture.
The pride and joy of Sant’Antonio (yes, just a stone’s throw from your cabin!), a cosy little spot open every day where you can relax, have a chat, enjoy a coffee or sample some local specialities.
This is the Ostana library, located inside the Merenderia building. It houses hundreds of books about the local area, titles related to the mountains, as well as novels, crime thrillers and bestsellers. In short: if the forecast suggests it might rain for a few hours, you know what to do!
Easy footpaths link the hamlets of Ostana. It’s a really pleasant walk, and you can tailor it to suit your needs by making it longer or shorter, but allow at least 1–2 hours. The path is accessible all year round (in winter with snowshoes).
A small church situated in a panoramic spot, with a long history and an almost deafening silence. It’s just a short walk from the mountain hut.
A wonderful summer hike, one you should do at least once. It takes you across gentle slopes up to a peak that seems to look straight at Monviso (but with stunning views in every direction).
Valle Po’s highlights
Ostana is ideally situated for exploring the whole of the Po Valley. Here are the must-see places.
There are loads of them, and they’re all different. You certainly won’t get bored… or lose sight of Monviso!

To see where the Po River begins, set off on easy or adventurous walks, or enjoy a bowl of polenta… with a view.
